Vuelta ciclista a Costa RicaStillllleeeee Naacht. Holy naaaight. The family slaughter festival is also held in Costa Rica. But here you don't fight around the Christmas tree. Here you fight on the street.

No no. I'm not the Grinch. And Christmas is actually very nice. Should it be. Unfortunately, according to the crime statistics, it is different. 

Christmas is also celebrated in Costa Rica, albeit in a slightly different way. At least for cyclists and their fans. They meet today and tomorrow to give presents on the street. There will be no white Christmas here either. The odds weren't that bad after all. However, the cold stopped shortly before the banana equator. Why should they have it better than we do here in Europe? However, this does not apply to the northern part of America. The film " Two Santa Clauses", I like to link it , is being shown there on the Reality Show. Riding home for X mas (one says chrismas) in a special way.

But let's talk a little more about the Vuelta Ciclista International a Costa Roca. Whenever you read such a puffy title, with International and pipapo, you can be sure that it is more of a local event. The only international is often the village sheriff and he comes from the neighboring village. This is not necessarily the case at the Vuelta a Costa Rica. People came from neighboring countries and from Holland. That's probably inter.

Yesterday we went back over the mountain of mountains, the 3324 m high volcano Cerro de la Murte. Yes, the boys drove up to this height, briefly spat in the crater and then it went back down to La Union. But it has nothing to do with our party landscape. A certain Sebastian Moya from Costa Rica ran out of breath, in such cases you should get advice from the German Ski Association, and he finished more than 30 minutes behind. He still won the way there. That was good for Colombian Suesca from Movistar Best PC, a local Ecuadorian variant from the WT Team. He finally got to the top of the table.

I have to say, Costa Ricans have a sense of humor. That's something I really like. Anyone who knows my reports knows that I don't particularly appreciate people who have to go down to the basement to laugh. Woe is that someone is laughing at me now.

One day before Christmas Eve we go to paradise. We've already been to Berlin, but this here and now is of course the highlight. From paradise to paradise. Do not make a detour through hell and collect 4000 euros directly. Hope there's so much to win. The rear drivers only do it for passion anyway. Don't expect a handshake...

However, there were 94 km between paradise or paradises. Carlos Alberto Guitterez was the first to pull in. I haven't gotten any niceties from the others yet. Hopefully St. Peter will show mercy and let them move in too. The rich are definitely not there.

  The boys down there don't call the Tour Down Under the Tour of Australia.  That would also be presumptuous.  Because the radius of events covers only a fraction of the fraction of the continent.  People say Paris is France, but maybe they haven't seen anything else of the country apart from the Eiffel Tower and the Moulin Rouge. Anyway.  Today the boys did a few laps around Tanunda.  You don't see much of the huge continent there either.  After a short journey of 40 km, there were four more loops of 16 km around the city.  Tanunda has a good 4000 inhabitants.  But they are plentiful in the area.  Here in Germany we might not speak of a city.  But down here, Down Under, it's a little different. One hill had to be overcome on each round.  His name is Mergil or something.  In each case it is 230 meters in altitude over a distance of 13 kilometers.  That will be a real Hammerberg.  Incidentally, he had to be ridden...

The Ruka weekend starts with snow.

  What would skiing be like in autumn without Finland.  Where the snow still knows the calendar.  Although, if I remember correctly, there were years when the slope was also drained here.  That's when you came up with snow farming.  You mothball the snow in summer and put it back in the landscape and on the ski jump in autumn. All would not be necessary.  Although you are still just below the Arctic Circle, it is freezing cold in Ruka.  And it looks like it too. The combined athletes are allowed to open the official ski jumping winter season.  Yes, you land on snow and not on green plastic straws.  Feels completely different.  Thanks Finland. As is well known, the competition of combined athletes consists of two disciplines.  Jumping and cross-country skiing, on skis.  This time the boys have to jump off the large hill and later in the afternoon run another 5 km. The Germans are known to be the favorites in this discipline....

Sascha Weber is the new German Cyclo Cross Champion.

  Sascha Weber is the new German Cyclo Cross Champion. It was hinted at beforehand.  Only two riders had the potential to become German Cyclo Cross Champion.  However, the old master Marcel Meisen weakened a bit in the race on Sunday in Munich.  So he had to admit defeat to his old rival Sascha Weber.  Weber had never climbed to the top of the podium at the National Cyclo Cross Championships.  He will therefore be glad that he managed to do it again at the age of 34. Of course, the whole thing also shows the misery in German cyclo cross sport.  There is simply a lack of competitive youngsters.  The two luminaries of last Sunday do not exactly belong to the world leaders in this sport.  And the youngsters are happy if they are not overtaken in Belgium and have to retire.  But it's rather rare. So the result is certainly a reason for Sascha Weber to celebrate.  To wear the jersey again so shortly before retirement is a stroke of luck....
