Mathieu Van der Poel wins the Christmas cross in Gavere.

Bild
digital digital The first meeting of the big three in the World Cup.  Van der Poel, Pidcock and Van Aert are the exceptional athletes in this sport.  However, cyclo cross is no longer the main sport of these three riders.  We see each other quite often on the streets of this world. Gavere is known for its mud.  There are many sidewalks.  However, they are a little harder to deal with than a normal pavement. When Van Aert, Pidcock, and Van der Poel show their art, the other Cyclo Crossers only have the roles of extras.  Unfortunately, this is the case and is also marked by the huge residues.  Before the last round, the big boys get serious.  Not against the competition.  It's already knocked off.  Tom Pidcock launches his attack on Van der Poel and fails.  It is true that he briefly passes the Flying Dutchman.  But then he runs out of breath.  Van Aert also shows him the heels. Van der Poel, however, pulls back and l...

Marco Suesca wins the Vuelta a Costa Rica.

Bild
The last tour of the year ended on Christmas Day.  The Vuelta ciclista International in Costa Rica.  After all, this race is a traditional tour.  It has existed uninterruptedly since the 1960s.  This is the 56th edition, which many UCI races in Europe cannot boast of.  Nevertheless, the race in Costa Rica is only 2.2.  Tour classified.  The fact that it can last ten days is due to tradition.  In newer races such as the Deutschland Tour, shorter lengths are specified by the UCI.  Also, not all teams are allowed to take part in all races.  This is also stipulated in the comprehensive regulations of the UCI.  I'll link it here.  If you feel like taking a few nice legal lessons.  <<<<<< You will look in vain for WT and PCT teams here.  Although that would be possible to a limited extent.  So the organizers have to be satisfied with national teams, CT teams and clubbers.  However, this do...

Holy bimbam in Costa Rica.

Bild
Stillllleeeee Naacht.  Holy naaaight.  The family slaughter festival is also held in Costa Rica.  But here you don't fight around the Christmas tree.  Here you fight on the street. No no.  I'm not the Grinch.  And Christmas is actually very nice.  Should it be.  Unfortunately, according to the crime statistics, it is different.  Christmas is also celebrated in Costa Rica, albeit in a slightly different way.  At least for cyclists and their fans.  They meet today and tomorrow to give presents on the street.  There will be no white Christmas here either.  The odds weren't that bad after all.  However, the cold stopped shortly before the banana equator.  Why should they have it better than we do here in Europe?  However, this does not apply to the northern part of America.  The film "  Two Santa Clauses", I like to link it  , is being shown there on the Reality Show.  Riding home for ...

Vuelta a Costa Rica. Across the Cerro de la Muerte

Bild
When Costa Rica fans hear that Perez Celedon is heading to La Union, they already know what's on the agenda for the Vuelta ciclista a Costa Rica.  Crossing the Cerro de la Muerte.  After all, the pass is set at 3324 meters.  These are the heights you never reach in European Grand Tours.  The dead are remembered far below. I can't even imagine what would happen if the professionals in Europe were expected to do such heights.  But I still remember the screams of the press fuzzies when Habeler and Messner climbed Mont Everest without oxygen.  However, it has to be said that most sports journalists do not even notice that cycling is practiced here in Costa Rica at Christmas time.  That's probably a good thing.  After all, today's stage starts at a level of 700 meters above sea level.  Tomorrow it's going back in the opposite direction. Admittedly, I'm not sure if for this reason some of the Vuelta a Costa Rica have been convicted of doping...

Cycling Tour of Costa Rica

Bild
One man's meat is another man's suffering.  The Vuelta a Costa Rica runs at Christmas time.  The race starts on December 16th and ends on December 25th.  Of course, as always, it goes over the 3200 high Cerro de la Muerte, a fairly high volcano.  The Vuelta Ciclsta a Costa Rica is therefore the filler between the Tour de France and that in Down Under.  But you can also choose something else.  Sometimes European teams are also at the start.  Mostly they come from South or Central America.  This year, however, the Global Team is part of the party.  The drivers come globally from Holland.  And spend the Christmas season in the Caribbean.  Felice Navidad.  As is well known, the rest of the country does winter sports in Winterberg during this time.  It should be warm there too.  However, I have been told that the complete snowmaking of the ski area there corresponds to the energy consumption of a flight with 200 pas...

Snowboard World Cup in Winterberg

Bild
And then there was the snowboard world cup in Winterberg.  Last weekend.  Several competitions were held.  For the snowboarders it was the start of the 22/23 season.  Winterberg showed himself in the best clothes.  A week earlier, winter had already turned the area white and the cold also made the snow cannons tile.   The first day didn't end so successfully for the German snowboarders.  In the mixed ranking they clearly missed the podium.  On Sunday things looked very different.  The parallel slalom was held there.  The track doesn't give much more. Here, too, the women were not entirely successful.  Melanie Hochreiter just missed the podium.  She lost her heats for third place.  German star snowboarder Stefan Baumann was luckier.  He didn't make it to the finals either.  But won his heats for third place against Austria's Alexander Payer.  Result  <<<<<

The phrasemongers of the pre-Christmas period

Bild
It is well known that German winter sports athletes usually only achieve results after Christmas.  That's why the time before that is the time of the phrase-mongering journalists.  You can be glad that they didn't become a chef.  The hospitals would be overrun en masse with food poisoning. A certain well-known German skier is said to be lying in wait somewhere in fourth place.  Great headline.  I'm wondering how you lie in wait in fourth place.  Do you do that before the finish line?  Or even before the start?  Dipped softly in a snow pit, then jumped out of the hole just before the race.  Or do they lie behind their hotel room door and anxiously await the start?  There are so many possibilities.  And then the phrasemongers.    After it didn't work out.  That's right.  It's not over.  Better?  It doesn't say yes, just the medal winners on the mic, please.  No, we don't need silver and bronze...

Wout Van Aert wins his first Cyclo Cross World Cup of the season.

Bild
Finally the Belgian Wout Van Aert got his World Cup victory in Dublin.  However, in the absence of Mathieu Van der Poel.  The Dutchman is still in the training camp in Spain.  But that doesn't mean anything, because Van Aert has prevailed against high-class competition.  In addition to the strong Belgians, Briton Tom Pidcock was also there.     Everyone is talking about Pidcock's home advantage.  But I'm not so sure.  A Brit in Ireland?  You probably prefer a European.  First, someone else determined the race.  Eli Iserbyt tried his resurrection and put himself at the front of the race.  Although Van Aert hit a post at one point and fell back, Iserbyt was unable to take advantage of the situation.  Others took on the role of the former world champion and rushed Iserbyt the lead.  So the Iserbyt ended where it always ended lately, around seventh place. Due to Tom Pidcock and Laurens Sweeck not being able to fini...

Ski jumping. Karl Geiger can do it again.

Bild
Ski jumping returned to Titisee/ Neustadt this weekend.  And Karl Geiger made it onto the podium right away in the first competition.  At least a third place behind Anze Lanisek from Slovenia and David Kubacki from Poland. There are still two weeks until the peak of the season.  This is of course the Four Hills Tournament.  Before that, however, the boys leave again in Engelberg, Switzerland. But this weekend we continue in Titisee.  Tomorrow we will see the team competition and on Sunday everyone will try again for themselves. Until then, the Pole David Kucki is the great champion.  For the time being he wears the yellow jersey for the leader in the World Cup. But you know that.  At the Four Hills Tournament, the focus is suddenly on a completely different person and all ambitions.  Let's hope for Karl Geiger. The other German jumpers also showed improving form in Titisee/Neustadt.  Constantin Schmid came in seventh and Seohan Leihe ...
