Lotto Soudal says World Tour goodbye

Now it is final. Team Lotto Dstny, as it will be called next year, says goodbye to the World Tour. Along with the other team, Israel Premier Tech. Both teams did not collect enough points at the end of the three years to keep the class.

Lotto's long-standing co-sponsor has therefore already said goodbye and moved to Quickstep. Next year the team will be called Soudal Quickstep. That should show who really sticks to the World Tour and is now ready to pay properly.

Names are smoke and mirrors in cycling. The teams usually belong to a company that passes on the name for them. To generous or less generous sponsors. For their money, they get the opportunity to be present on television for hours at cycle races. Of course, the fans cry when their team is doing badly. If you have a penchant for any brand, then of course you can't resist proudly presenting your team's jersey at a wide variety of cycling tours. hey look people I'm a quick stepper or something.

Without the money of the sponsors it doesn't work in cycling. Or just a little. Even German third-class Bundesliga teams adorn themselves with any company. Look here, I'm, well, who knows what.

Let's take the largest and most popular German team. Bora hansgrohe. I can still remember well how they were called netap enduro and back then, I think it was 2014, they had to beg to take part in the tour. At that time, a few of the places in the big races were still allocated in the squire's way. It was the start of the big world. Later they called themselves Bora Argon 18 and when they bought Peter Sagan and his equipment with the help of hansgrohe Bora hansgrohe.

At that time, Andre Greipel was already driving for Lotto Soudal. They used to call themselves Lotto Belisol. A year or two earlier, Lotto was affiliated with Omega Pharma. They then continued with Quickstep. Just like the current sponsor Soudal.

So names are basically smoke and mirrors. If you look at the roster of cycling teams over the past decade, it's safe to say that pretty much everyone has been with everyone. The main thing is that the coal is right.

The Ruka weekend starts with snow.

Sascha Weber is the new German Cyclo Cross Champion.

  Sascha Weber is the new German Cyclo Cross Champion. It was hinted at beforehand.  Only two riders had the potential to become German Cyclo Cross Champion.  However, the old master Marcel Meisen weakened a bit in the race on Sunday in Munich.  So he had to admit defeat to his old rival Sascha Weber.  Weber had never climbed to the top of the podium at the National Cyclo Cross Championships.  He will therefore be glad that he managed to do it again at the age of 34. Of course, the whole thing also shows the misery in German cyclo cross sport.  There is simply a lack of competitive youngsters.  The two luminaries of last Sunday do not exactly belong to the world leaders in this sport.  And the youngsters are happy if they are not overtaken in Belgium and have to retire.  But it's rather rare. So the result is certainly a reason for Sascha Weber to celebrate.  To wear the jersey again so shortly before retirement is a stroke of luck....
