Laurens Sweeck takes the win in Niel

The Cyclo Cross in Niel is traditionally held on November 11th. When the revelers start the season in Cologne, the cyclo cross fans traditionally take off in Niel at the Superprestige. It used to be an ambitious cross-country run. The boys on the bikes have been fighting the battle with the Schlanmm for over 30 years.

Dutchman Lars Van der Haar didn't look so good at first. He bobbed around for 10th place. But that changed quickly and the Swiss and Spanish champions were no longer in the picture. They only ever have the air for three or four rounds. Then they usually run out of the same thing.

Lars Van der Haar gradually worked his way to the top. Two laps before the end he caught up with Laurens Sweeck, who had been leading up to that point. After that, it just looked like Sweeck couldn't do anything more.

 

But how wrong one can be. Sweeck stayed with the Dutchman and overtook him again. The decision was made in the last lap just before the finish line. Laurens Sweeck was able to get a small lead on the last stretch of sand and defended it for the last few meters to the finish.

German drivers? No nonsense. After all, three boys were in the running. However, they didn't have much to say. We tend to find them in the lower ranks.
